The priority is to restore ventilation and circulation by starting CPR while actively inspecting the airway for the obstruction. Open the airway and deliver rescue breaths as you perform chest compressions. If the obstructing object is visible and can be removed safely with a finger sweep or suction, remove it and continue CPR. If you can’t see or can’t remove the object, keep performing CPR and ventilations to generate air movement that may dislodge the blockage. Providing oxygen alone won’t resolve the obstruction or support circulation, and defibrillation isn’t indicated unless there’s a shockable rhythm.
